About The Role

Join a community of educators and innovators at our stunning Penryn campus in Cornwall, one of the UK's most creative and inspiring regions.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Instrumental Tutor (Drums) to join our dynamic team within the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts.

As an Instrumental Tutor (Drums) within AMATA, you will primarily teach on MUS102 Specialist Music Practice 1 and MUS202 Specialist Music Practice 2, delivering one-to-one and small-group tuition that supports the development of technical proficiency, musicianship, creativity and professional practice. Experience working across a diverse range of musical styles is essential.

Hours and days worked are negotiable in advance, but in most cases Instrumental Tutors commit to an agreed number of hours for a specific taught module for an entire Study Block.

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced drummer, educator and active music practitioner, with strong technical and stylistic knowledge across a range of contemporary music practices. You will provide specialist one-to-one and small group tuition, supporting students in the development of instrumental technique, musicianship, creativity and professional performance skills.

You will be an excellent communicator who can build positive and productive relationships with students, offer constructive feedback, and help learners achieve their full potential. You will also work effectively with academic staff to support students' wider learning and engagement across the curriculum.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Significant professional expertise and performance experience as a drummer.
  • Experience of teaching, coaching or mentoring musicians, ideally within Higher Education or specialist music education.
  • The ability to support students across a range of musical styles and approaches.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to student development, inclusivity and high-quality learning experiences.
  • The ability to provide constructive verbal and written feedback that supports student progress.

It would be advantageous if applicants can also contribute to areas such as ensemble direction, band coaching, songwriting, composition, music technology, musicianship skills and/or tuition on additional instruments.

For further details on the skills/experience required for this role, please see the full job description above.

This is a fixed term, part-time, hourly paid position based at Penryn campus.
