About The Role

Sustaining university infrastructure in Cornwall.

We’re looking for a dynamic Engineering Maintenance Manager to lead and develop our engineering maintenance function across two vibrant university campuses. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the leadership team within the Infrastructure Directorate and make a direct, lasting impact on our estate's performance, safety, and sustainability.

What you'll be doing

You’ll oversee all Estates mechanical and electrical maintenance operations, ensuring our engineering systems are fully compliant, safe, and fit for purpose. Your expertise will guide both planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance checks, estate improvements, and contractor performance. You’ll lead a highly capable team that includes in-house technical specialists, supervisors, tradespeople and external specialists; working closely with the wider Estates Team to deliver a seamless and effective service across the campus.

This is a varied, hands-on leadership role where no two days are the same. It’s also a chance to grow with us – we’re expanding our department to better support our academic partners, and you’ll have the autonomy and support to shape the future of engineering services at the university.

About You

Who we’re looking for

We're seeking a proactive, solutions-focused professional with a strong background in engineering maintenance and team leadership within large or complex estates.

You’ll need:

  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering maintenance teams and contractors
  • Strong working knowledge of compliance and statutory requirements for M&E infrastructure
  • Technical competence in maintenance systems (CAFM, CAD, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, planning, and stakeholder engagement skills
Why join us?

You’ll be part of a supportive team that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. You’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining high-quality environments that help students and staff thrive.

This senior post is offered on a 37.5 hour a week, full time, permanent contract working across Monday-Friday. If you are looking to have an informal discussion about the vacancy ahead of applying please email Chris Piper, Head of Estates at: [email protected]

The closing date for the position is Sunday 1 June 2025.

Interviews will take place on Monday 16 June 2025.
