Associate Lecturer: Interior Design

We are seeking enthusiastic and forward-thinking Associate Lecturers in Interior Architecture & Interior Design to join our dynamic team within the School of Architecture, Design & Interiors.

This is an exciting opportunity for practitioners, educators and specialists who want to contribute to a growing and ambitious course while maintaining a connection to professional or creative practice. Our students are encouraged to challenge conventions, develop distinctive design voices and explore the social, cultural, environmental and technological dimensions of contemporary spatial practice.

You will contribute to teaching across a range of undergraduate modules and levels, supporting studio-based learning, tutorials, workshops, technical activities, design development, assessment and student support.

Module content spans spatial design, interior architecture, materiality, technology, representation, sustainability, people and place, and contemporary approaches to the design of interior and spatial environments. We particularly welcome applicants with experience in areas such as interior architecture or interior design practice, spatial design, digital technologies, fabrication and making, material exploration, sustainable design, professional practice or other relevant specialist areas.

The role offers the opportunity to work across different modules and bring current professional, creative or research perspectives directly into the student learning experience.

Hours and days worked are negotiable in advance and will depend on teaching requirements and the Associate Lecturer’s availability.

In most cases, Associate Lecturers will commit to an agreed number of hours for a specific taught module or teaching activity for an entire Study Block. There may also be opportunities to contribute across multiple modules and Study Blocks throughout the academic year.

The flexible nature of the role makes it particularly suitable for practitioners and specialists who want to combine teaching at Falmouth with their professional, creative or research practice.

The successful candidate will have a relevant educational and/or professional background in interior architecture, interior design, spatial design or a closely related discipline, together with comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of contemporary practice.

You will be an effective communicator who can engage students in both group and individual teaching, and who is confident sharing your knowledge, experience and ideas within a studio-based learning environment. You’ll be able to adapt your approach to support students at different stages of their development and demonstrate a genuine commitment to helping students build confidence, develop their ideas and achieve their full potential.

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills and experience:

• Current knowledge and experience of interior architecture, interior design, spatial design or a relevant specialist area, ideally supported by active professional, creative or research practice.
• Experience of communicating and presenting design ideas effectively, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and engage students in discussion around their work.
• An understanding of teaching and learning within higher education, including an awareness of academic quality, assessment and the student experience.
• The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly within a multidisciplinary course team, contributing effectively across different modules, levels and teaching activities.
