About The Role

Falmouth Exeter Plus manages and delivers services at Falmouth, Penryn and Truro Campuses on behalf of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter. As a lead subject matter expert and a key member of the Infrastructure Directorate’s Management Team, the Engineering Maintenance Manager plays a vital role in the development and execution of engineering maintenance activities, while also contributing to the enhancement of service quality and effectiveness of the Infrastructure Directorate.
 
The role is responsible for mechanical and electrical maintenance activities across the two University campuses in Cornwall, to deliver and sustain the estate’s engineering assets as safe, compliant and fit-for-purpose.
 
The successful candidate will provide a high-level technical and professional advice on estate engineering and infrastructure issues, directly overseeing functional areas such as planned maintenance, statutory inspections, contracted works, and estate improvements. You will work in close collaboration with the Building Maintenance Manager in delivering a comprehensive estate maintenance function.
 
The role holder will lead a small team of maintenance professionals, in addition to leading the in-house trade team with supervisory, electrical, plumbing and plant engineering roles. It's an exciting time as we grow the department to support our university partners. You will have the support of a highly skilled team and have the autonomy to develop the role to ensure the right outcomes are achieved.

About You

Reporting into the Head of Estates the successful candidate will be an astute professional able to the lead delivery of a range of engineering maintenance activities using both direct labour and contractors / consultants. It is a varied role which will require the successful candidate to show a real depth of management and technical ability in handling multiple concurrent maintenance activities.
 
The ideal candidate would have the following skills and experience:
 
  • Experience of engineering maintenance regimes in large estates and/or complex organisations.
  • Significant recent experience of leading internal and external teams, including consultants and contractors.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of all engineering system related legislation & regulation, including statutory inspection regimes related to LEV, lifting equipment, fire alarms and detection, HV and LV electrical systems, HVAC, legionella control, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of maintenance support systems, including CAFM, CAD, etc.
