Institutional Outreach Officer

We are seeking an Institutional Outreach Officer, who is passionate about raising the aspirations of young people across Cornwall. This is a role that will be based at Falmouth University, but funded by, and in collaboration with Next Steps South West (NSSW). Next Steps South West is part of the national ‘Uni Connect’ programme funded by the Office for Students (OfS), who aim to increase the progression of students from disadvantaged backgrounds into Higher Education. NSSW work across Devon, Cornwall, and some areas of Somerset through collaboration between partner institutions and external organisations.

 

In this role you will develop and deliver a range of activities, events and projects for young people that align with both our 2030 strategy, our current outreach programme, and our Access and Participation Plan strategy, with the main aim of reducing the gap between the least disadvantaged and most disadvantaged learners accessing Falmouth University.

 

You will work with direction from NSSW and be line managed by Falmouth University’s Senior Outreach Officer. In addition to engaging with young people in schools and colleges across Cornwall, you will also liaise with local school and college staff, local employers and organisations, and parents and carers, offering impartial information, advice and guidance about future education and career options.

The candidate needs to be an excellent communicator who is both empathetic and motivational when working with young people. Experience of working with the target age group (School Years 10 to 13) or within a higher education or further education environment is desired for this position.

Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be required to successfully undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

 

This is a fixed term to 31 July 2025, part time, 28 hours a week position across Monday-Friday.
